Tennis Time

Well, I just had my first Pilot Pen lobster roll, and I have to say I'm disappointed. I'll write more about this in an upcoming column, but sadness is overtaking me right now. I have no idea what to write, how to feel or how to move on with my life.

What's a boy supposed to do when his favorite thing in the whole wide world has been shrunk considerably, and changed in a meaningful way? I haven't been this traumatized since the fine folks at Sam Adams discontinued its Spring Ale. Pardon me while I cry some more.

Keep in mind, that starting tomorrow, I will be writing a column a day for the regular newspaper. I'm here at the Pilot Pen, covering everything that has nothing to do with real tennis. For tomorrow, be on the lookout for a piece on the largest tennis court ever constructed, or something like that.

I'll be updating this blog regularly from the tourney, so pay close attention. OK, now I've got to get a free razor or 30 to cheer myself up.

WVIT also seems intent on covering anything BUT the tennis at the Pilot. Their reporter spent a good 2-3 minutes extolling the virtues of the food, and how fabulous it is. Sadly, she did not mention the lobster roll. However, for a good and lonely time, get the personal pan pizza for one.

I suspect any guy reveling in one of those pizzas for one probably lathers up in Axe before he hits the tourney anyway.

For those of us living vicariously through your tourney exploits, please be so kind as to rate all the free swag this week. I can't say enough for shamless product pimps who will do just about anything to make you take their freebies. (To whit, you have to wonder...why would they presume any guy walking through the grounds would need a razor? Is there a mandate to be well-shaven when you down your personal pizza? Are they handing out razors to the ladies as well, so they can be sure that their legs are silky smooth when they stick to the hot medal seats?)

I look forward to more of your excellent tennis adventures...

The summer's mostly over, and it's just dawned on me that we haven't heard a word from you this year on your beloved softball. Are you not playing this summer? I realize nothing could top your 2008 tournament victory, but...

What's the latest from the land of the fuzzy yellow balls?

By "regularly," you meant?....

Alright, alright...I'll grudgingly admit, though your blog updates were anything but "regular" (there's a fine line between "regular" and "nonexistent" I guess), your Register columns were consistently entertaining, well-written and enjoyable. As always, nice job.

However, maybe next time you can remember all of us floating around out here on our Tron cycles in the blogosphere?...
