Check This Out

I admit I'd never heard of this, but read an article in Entertainment Weekly recently. I've still yet to see the movie, but the trailer for "The Room" more than lives up to the billing its given in the article. Please watch and laugh.

Speaking of laughably bad films...

What does one do after an epic snowstorm besides dig out? Well, trudge to the multiplex, of course.

And lemme tell ya...

"Seven Pounds" was seven kinds of awful. Cloying, weeping and full of that "ain't I a good actor" crap from Will Smith that makes him increasingly more insufferable with each new movie (I thought he hit rock bottom with "Hancock" but this one is worse). Poor Woody Harrelson. How did he end up in this drivel? And Rosario Dawson? She was so choice in that second Clerks movie...and now THIS?! Bleech. What junk. It was so bad, I would rather have been out shoveling.

If you care, my ten best flix for 2008 were:
1. Wall*E
2. Slumdog Millionaire
3. Tropic Thunder
4. Happy Go Lucky
5. Dark Knight (though I'm not as stoked as most of America was)
6. Iron Man
7. Vicky Chistina Barcelona
8. Let the Right One In
9. Man on Wire
10. ???

I reserve spot 10 for one of the potentially good end-of-year flix: Revolutionary Road or Gran Torino?

OK, being a stunted man-child, I was tempted to throw things like "Role Models" or "Pineapple Express" or "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" on here. I also know that it belies all critical rationale not to include things like "Milk" or "Frost/Nixon" - as I think I've mentioned before, I thought there were really good performances in these films, but the films themselves just didn't grab me.

If nothing else fills the slot, I guess it'd go to "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist."
